Sapara Vitality

A holistic health model that weaves together ancestral Sapara medicine with contemporary medical practices.

Creating a healthcare system that is dependable and available for all members of the community has been a dream of Naku Foundation for many years. Up until now, whenever there is a health emergency or need for critical care - people must call an air taxi (plane) to take them to the nearest hospital. Sometimes this is necessary, but we can do more to create more support so the cost of a flight and visit to the hospital is taken care of as well as providing more in-community options. For example, investing in refrigeration so snakebite medicine is available when they need it. Training community members in first aid and pre and post-natal care.

Objectives:

• Comprehensive maternal health care: support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum - this requires training more women in the community to support other women.

• Traditional, energetic, spiritual medicine practices rooted in the use of medicinal plants.

• Training of community health promoters with an intercultural approach.

• Creation of community centers for rest, healing, and preventative care.

• Spiritual and emotional support, in partnership with public intercultural health systems.

• Integration of ancestral knowledge with modern medical care: diagnostics, basic care, and referrals to public health networks when needed.

• Recovery of healing songs, therapeutic massage, and rituals as essential elements of holistic care.
